Filmmaker and journalist
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is an Academy Award and Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker, whose work focuses on human rights and women’s issues globally. Her films include Saving Face, Transgenders: Pakistan’s Open Secret And Pakistan’s Taliban Generation, which received the Alfred I Dupont Award and The Association for International Broadcasting Award. Born in Pakistan, Chinoy is the first non-American to be awarded the Livingston Award for best international reporting. Time Magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most influential people in 2012 and she was named broadcast journalist of the year in the UK by One World Media in 2007.
