Senior Researcher, Women’s Rights Division, Human Rights Watch
Nisha Varia is senior researcher in Human Rights Watch’s women’s rights division. She has conducted numerous investigations into the rights abuses of migrant domestic workers across Asia and the Middle East over the past decade, publishing reports on her findings. She regularly speaks to the media to raise awareness of domestic workers’ rights and campaigns for legal reforms and enforcement. She co-led HRW’s participation in the development of the International Labour Organisation's Domestic Workers Convention, adopted in 2011. She formerly worked at the International Centre for Research on Women and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
