Linda Weil-Curiel

Lawyer, President of French Commission for the Abolition of Sexual Mutilation

Linda Weil-Curiel has been working as a lawyer in Paris since 1973 and is a member of the Ligue du Droit International des Femmes (the International Women’s Rights League), founded by Simone de Beauvoir. She has led pro bono campaigns against female genital mutilation – she was involved in the film Bintou in Paris, produced a CD about FGM by Malian musician Bafing Kul and worked as a lawyer on FGM cases, helping to bring more than 100 convictions. She also worked to end the abduction of French children by their Algerian fathers and to ban discrimination at the Olympics.
