Imam Djiguiba Cissé

Founder of the Fondation Djigui la Grande espérance

Imam Cissé is the founder of the Abidjan-based Fondation Djigui La Grande Espérance (the Great Hope of Djigui Foundation) and is a widely respected and influential activist in the Ivory Coast. He has been working tirelessly to sensitise all levels of Ivorian society to female genital mutilation (FGM) and ultimately to eliminate the practice nationwide. Cissé was also part of the Ban FGM Coalition delegation that participated in the 56th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, advocating for the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution banning FGM worldwide.
